Hello All, Does anyone have a rough idea to production numbers for an 806 in 18K between 1956-57? Also, if it would be even rarer to have "Breitling Geneve" above solid bar (unsigned) wings on this variety? I can't access the BOW/WOG determination as yet, only the bead count (120). 18k in 1956/57 would be a huge surprise - early solid gold cases were produced in 14k gold; so if it is 18k it would be very late 1950s or early 1960s, the "bead count rule" applies to steel/GP only. if it is a mid 50s 14k solid it is among the rarest Breitling of all - we have no production data, but I'd say we saw a solid gold for every 10 or so Valjoux R72 ? |

Hello Fred, Thank you kindly for the speedy and informative reply. I hope to have it in my hands next week; and while I can't confirm the karat count until then (I assumed it was 18K from my somewhat limited prior knowledge to gold 806's), but can confirm it is solid gold because of the sale/condition report, and what appears to be soldered lugs versus steel/GP -- which I believe you and others here have touched on. As soon as I have it you'll be among the first to see the pics of the case and movement (even before the wife). Many thanks again, Fred! |

if it is the piece that was auctioned by Hansons you did EXTREMELY well. should it be that, note the hands are incorrectly painted white, but it seems they are the correct gold underneath. |

Yes, it is indeed that one; and while it appears to be in better condition, a couple of months ago I lost out on a R72 with the caseback Ref 806 (steel) that I'm still kicking myself over. Congratulations on a nice piece, Would be interested to see the pictures when you have it. In accurate auction listings always get some interest. I was also bidding on this but you went a little past my rather conservative line. Glad it sounds like it's gone to a good home. |

Hello Jamie A, It did go beyond my initial pre-bid, and only decided at the last second to push it. Of course, at the end of the day there was at least an additional 30% tacked on between the auction house, bank fees and shipping, but I had to do it considering what I "lost out" on about two months ago--another grail piece.
