I just bought a 1960s Chronomat. Trying to figure out the optimum number of winds for maximum power reserve. Is there any baseline recommendation on the safe number of winds for optimum use? 20 turns does not seem to go more than 24-28 hours. The watch works fantastically well, by the way, and was recently serviced. |

Maximum power reserve will be when the watch is fully wound. The watch has been serviced so there shouldn't be any problems winding it fully and really no reason to count the winds unless you're just curious. |

don't be afraid of your vintage watch, it neither bites nor breaks so easily, as long as you keep away from water. as Paul says, it needs a fully wound spring to give u the full power reserve, so wind it until you feel relevant resistance, then stop. don't count, just wind. |

Very helpful! And yes, I feared the vintage watch! But, I have to note, the winding mechanism seems very solid, unlike another vintage watch that I have. I have not pushed the winder on this Breitling to the point of any hard resistance. Next time! Thanks all. PS. Sorry I posted in the wrong thread, meant the vintage thread. |
