Post subject: | What's the value of this prewar Breitling Stopwatch |
Hello guys, I am new to this forum and I could really use your help. My grandmother died this year and she gave my brother and me the Breitling Stopwatch of her father(who died in 1946) I have searched all over the Internet to look for exactly this stopwatch, but can't seem to find it. Someone told me to look for Chronoslide ass well, but I just don't see our exact Breitling. Does anybody know the exact name/year/value or any info about this piece? I hope so, Regards Frank |

its not quite pre-war the dial says 'Geneve' and given the fact that Breitling moved to Geneve in mid/late 1953 its dated after 1953 if you can open it up it should have a serial number and that may help us date it better value ? .. my best guess is $200-250 but I have to admit I am not 'into' stopwatches so I am probably off the mark here |

Thanks for your answer and the value-guess ! I appreciate it, regards Frank |

the current Breitling retailers / stores and the the current Breitling company have no clue about anything that was produced before 1980 , they're absolutely useless when it comes to anything from the original Breitling company if you can open it , or have it opened again so we can see the inside and a serial number , it might help |

of course all grandmothers have no reason to lie about stopwatches, but all grandmothers also forget some facts about the past or don't remember exactly. Generelly stop watches from mid of 30thies look different than this one, specially the case and the crown - more like a pocket watch from earlier days. In my opinion the watch is from mid/end of 50thies or even 60thies (not important for the value, because it was a modell, that was available a long period in the same style as we see it in the pictures from Frank). my opinion about value is the same than Rene (and not easy to sell for this price, but possible) regards Stephan |

as Rene explained, earliest production year would be 1953, when Breitling moved to Geneva. no doubts here. |

Thank you all, unfortunately I can't ask my grandmother anymore. The only explanation I can think of is that she got it from her brother instead of her father(but still she was so sure she got it from her dad but anyhow). Her brother died years ago and was a very good water polo-player too. Maybe he coached as well. I can ask my mum about that. Thanks for all the info. I think it is a great/rare piece with its swimming, skating and hockey-images. Regards Frank |

It is the ref 1576 and you can see it in the catalogue " Compteurs d' industrie et de sport" , beginning of the 60's . For the owners of the Breitling Book, see the pics of this catalogue on page 158, middle right . |
