Hi, All: Looking for a little feedback on the dial and hands on this 1968/9 vintage Breitling Navitimer, with a 130XXXX serial number. Looks fairly clean, but I wonder whether it's a replacement dial. The subdials look flatter than some of the other subdials I've seen from the late '60s Navitimers with the larger subdials. Many seem to be slightly raised around the edges and have a circular texture in the middle. Seller states it's all original and untouched, with no re-luming. Any opinions much appreciated!

even if someone had never seen a original 806 dial, he can find out by

quietly checking the dial of this watch

and than it is possible to find some mistakes, that never ever

a watch/dial shows

Thanks, Stephan, but can you clarify? Not sure what you mean.

Ah, I see what you mean. Is it possible it's just a variation with slightly bigger subdials or is it absolutely a fake dial? Thanks for your help.

i think you didn't check the picture really

or you like to see something that doesn't existe.

most 10 dollar watches shows more symmetrie/balance
on the dial.

Don't know, what more to say.

It is a fake dial. There were Navitimers with slightly larger sub dials produced in the late sixties, but they did not cut the markers like yours. Here's a correct dial:

Many thanks. I'm passing on the watch, and I've let the seller know.

Hi All,

For the record this is my watch for sale and the dial is not 'fake'.

It was common back in those days if you sent your watch in for service and there was damage or markings Breitling might replace it, and they might not be 100% identical to the original. You see this quite commonly on Navis like in this post for example (very similar dial to mine).

viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51525&p=370162&hilit=Service#p370162

Generally they can be identified by a slight variation in the Breitling logo, although mine looks good.

The other item of interest is the one guy said that the dial is not "symmetric" - navi dials are never symmetric. The subdial to the left is always further from the centre of the watch compared to the subdial on the right. You can pick any dial with any of the subdial versions and see that.

Thanks

I had a feeling something like this was coming as I had a hard time believing or accepting the 'fake' claim

'Service dial' is much more believable as the print quality of the dial is outstanding and I find it very hard to believe a 3rd party out there would be able to pull this off with all the detail shown in the dial

and if you look closer at Kurt's watch , its also asymetrical with the 9 'o clock subdial cutting into the seconds ring more than the 3 'o clock subdial

thank you for linking to our previous service dial discussions ;)

BUT your dial is very, very strange; most probably not fake, as most of the printing quality is excellent, but the subdial index printing is way off, probably a production error or a small series with an incorrect die; here's how it should look:

Fred, your dial is a brand new factory replacement dial IMHO
