Hello Guys,

my name is Marco and i would like to ask some questions about a Breitling Cosmonaute 809 which im interested in:

- can somebody tell me how this old cosmonautes were gold coated back then? how thick is the coating and how durable is it?

- the watch seems to be in a fairly good condition for its age but the gold on one side seems to have changed the color. Do you think this can be polished to its original shine without destroying the gold coating?

- what should i be willing to pay for said watch in shown condition?

Here are some Pictures:

Note that the sliderule is replaced. Hands look slightly fat too, but might just be the poor resolution or glare of the photo.

The gold is quite durable, but will eventually come off with wear. Might not happen in the time you own it if you don't wearit daily.

the big arabic numbers look realy sloppy but ive seen this on other old cosmonauts too so that might be normal i guess?

Could you give me some Input on how much i should be willing to pay for that watch?

thankx alot

strange reactions, for a dealer price well in line, have a look through C24, also for ebay BIN asking prices, surprised.

yes, auctions do often end lower, little surprise here, the same holds true for almost any auction/BIN-asking comparison, but clearly NOT out of line.

Agree

but that wasnt the question , the question was 'what would I (me in this case) be willing to pay'

and I'd be willing to pay 2K ;)

Being retail.... I can see it being 4k US. Does not mean it will sell for that. Put it up on the bay at no reserve, won't happen. Stainless in the same condition, that would be a different story. But plated???
I have a local dealer who has a gold plated '66 Navi for sale in his shop for $5000. And been sitting there for 3 years.....
