Post subject: | Newbie with a question about a Navitimer 7808-S |
Hi Breitling friends My name is Holger, I'm from Germany/Bavaria/Munich. I'm a watch collector (Vintage) since 5 or 6 years. And now I have a question about a watch on Ebay http://www.ebay.de/itm/Breitling-Naviti ... 2c8d5890d9 I found a lot of information at the web but the number "7808-S" on the caseback makes me a little nervous. Is this watch ok or is the caseback wrong? Thanks and regards! |

Thanks for the link! If I read this correct - the caseback is from a Chronomatic, right? |

Ok - but the text at the yellow brochure says 7806 not 7808. |

I think it's still correct with that back. http://www.ebay.de/itm/BREITLING-GENEVE-NAVITIMER-7808-S-1970-CAL-7740-ORIGINALBAND-S-G-ZUSTAND-/390920193760?nma=true&si=VtbVtDGsSuUAWjr9gs2Mj9t7tPA%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 |

It is not the only 7806 stamped as 7808 ... |

there is little to add to the information in the 2013 thread that Paul/vintage has linked to, besides the fact that the only known witness from those times, Albert Wajs confirmed in a long and very pleasant meeting we had in January 2014 that he knows of no "early 2000s" production runs of 780x and 880x and claimed that Willy Breitling had tried to use up as many of the Navitimer components he had on stock in the mid-1970s - just a "handful" of Breitling branded Navitimer dials were included with the components he had bought from Willy. So, it's clearly not "perfectly correct", but we'll never be able to confirm above reasonable doubt whether it has been assembled by Breitling or at a later time. Seller claims the (very nice, btw.) watch is coming from the original owner, did you try to find out more about that ? |

Thanks again! I like the watch at the bay a lot - nice Tritium - sharp edges at the case - steel bracelet - vintage box But I have problems in this price range when it's not 100% sure that the watch exists with this components The question is: should I buy the watch or wait until a "correct" with 7806 caseback is coming? |

The seller is reliable, I know him personally. It's well known, that Breitling has built the last watches with all parts that where available. Maybe you can find someone who has a 7808 with a 7806 caseback ![]() The bracelet is also very rare with this endpieces. cal_11 |

For me a very desirable watch and no concern about 7808 in place for 7806 , even if I did not meet a stamping 7808 - S before. I have a 7806 stamped 7808 , you need a magnifier to be sure that it is a 8 and not a 6 due to weak stamping . Some words about the vintage box . For years I have had a question without answer about those blue and grey boxes : Breitling Genève corresponds to pre-1980 era but I have personaly owned 2 Navis 81600 of the Schneider era with original sales papers and this blue+grey Breitling Genève box . Warranty Papers were also printed Breitling Genève with modern double wings logo. So why did the Breitling SA use Breitling Genève papers and boxes as they were based in Grenchen - in the Sicura factory at this period? |

Is it me or are both these watches in the two different ebay listings identical i.e. the same watch? The serial numbers have the same scratch under the '0'. Am I missing something? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
