Using the official SN list hereafter, who has the latest vintage Breitling here ? ( viewtopic.php?f=11&t=31437 )

For me : SN1434218 dated 1975 ( Transocean Automatic)

For sure the winner has a Navi LCD :(

My latest is 1955, not sure what the latest vintage Breitling would be, guess the year the original Breitling factory went under, 79?

You've been here long enough to know better San.

1978, and Breitling never "went under" the parts and rights were sold off in order to avoid having to take the company into bankruptcy.

I stand corrected on the exact year and the textbook definition of going under Roff, but the Breitlings in the immediate years after didn't really toe in the footsteps of the Breitling family held company as far as I know. I know they put togather watches from existing watch parts but that's not exactly of true vintage heritage in the true sense. On the contrary, I think the modern Breitling is surely attempting to revive its vintage heritage prior to 78, so that's a good thing.

Don't understand the relevance of that comment to a discussion on when the latest serial number would appear.

It's sort of interesting to me because different collectors would consider only upto a certain year as relevant to watches being classed as vintage. And the OP is refering to vintage Breitling. For example in Rolex world, 80s watches with a sapphire crystal are not classed as true vintages yet by the serious collectors. But that doesn't stop people from collecting them, it's just an opinion:), back to OPs post.

thx, all.

documenting another "late" piece - not the last production years, but an unexpected Top Time 810 from 1972, years after the 810 was replaced by the 815. case a bit overpolished, but decent and correct, just surprisingly late .....

not mine, San - was listed on ebay, just adding it as it adds to our forum "wisdom".
member asked me about it and the auction was ended, so maybe we'll see it again ?
