Post subject:  Breitling 806 Mystery

Hi, First time poster so please forgive any silly questions...

I was given, as a gift a Breitling 806 which I believe to be a 1960's vintage. It has had a new strap and the lumens repaired (as some were damaged).

I am really struggling to find any details about the watch as it has an all black dial - I can only find white dial versions. I'm really keen to know more about the watch, and indeed why it might be the only all black dial I can find. I've sought advie from another site and was directed here as the best place to go. (pics below)

I hope someone can help, I believe someone called Saabreit might have the same watch?

Thanks

Paul

Interesting :-D dial with red 4 markings and a scalering with a (only) red marking at 65?

there is no indication that these dials were ever used by Breitling for their Navitimer 806 during the 1960s; forum member saabreit received such a dial from the spare parts stock of a trader several years ago, so it isn't the first we see, but we haven't been able to find out more about it's origin and history.

I want to highlight a major point : the 2 dials that I got in hands were for Valjoux 7736 !
My first one was fitted on my 806-E ( dated 1970 ) and completely ruined .
I was enough lucky to hunt a similar dial from a non suspectable source involved in take over original stocks after LG Breitling closure .
I am sure that it was not an aftersales dial, but a dial remained unsold because it was not useable for V178 powered Navis .

So kirwin85, can you confirm the SN and type of your Navi?

Hi, the serial number on the back of the watch is 1343082.

I hope that helps?

SN 1343082 is close to SN 1342970 of my Navi 806 - E - Year 1970 for both .
What type for your watch , 806 or 806-E?
Identifying the caliber is very simple once the caseback removed : rose gold color would indicates a Venus 178, and steel color a Valjoux 7736 .

It has 806 stamped on the back.

This might be a very silly question, but how would I remove the back? (can I?) I'm pretty new to the world of Breitling, this watch being my first. Looking to get it valued for insurance, but as I can't find any with an all black dial it's proving difficult to answer the insurers questions on value etc. Typical. :)
