Post subject: | Unusual Dial, Navitimer 806, dated 1963. |
Hello. I am new to this site. I have been looking at a Navitimer 806, dated 1963 with beaded bezel and white sub dials. The chap selling it is convinced that it is original and was sold to him by an American gentlemen who owned it from the 1960's but it was never worn. Apparently the guy had a gold one which he wore instead. I have viewed it and the condition is excellent, verging on mint. However, even though I am no expert alarm bells were ringing. The condition looks too good! Also the dial is very unusual having white dials, battens but with the Breitling wording and logo beneath the AOPA logo. Can anyone comment on whether this original, a fake or a legitimate modern Breitling replacement dial? Any help would be very much appreciated. I am tempted to make the purchase but don't want to end up with an undesirable watch. Thanks in advance. Will |

welcome to BreitlingSource ![]() looks like a redial to me but cant really make out the AOPA logo well enough there's a transitional 63/64 model , with rice bead bezel (like in the pic above) but with an applied Gold (raised) AOPA logo , not gilt painted but to be absolutely sure I would like to see a much better , in focus large picture here's mine for comparison ![]() |

Thanks. I have attached another pic. Sorry but its the best I have at the minute as I don't own the watch! I have searched the web but cannot find one like it, real or fake! I have seen similar but with Arabic rather than battens. The logo isn't. If it is a redial will it affect the value much? Thanks, Will |

it's one of the Breitling service dials produced (so says Kurt) in the early 2000s - combining panda & numerals & AOPA & B logo .... |

Well, it certainly isn't 'fake' , mine has 'stick markers' and not 'arabic' numbers and its completely orginal , the only question I have is about the AOPA logo and the 'B Breitling Geneve' below it. it might be a redial but since there are several different versions , some of which 1 have only seen once , it might be completely original as well but I cant tell from these pics. Depending on the asking price it might very well be a great watch for a great price ? edit: WatchFred wrote: it's one of the Breitling service dials produced (so says Kurt) in the early 2000s - combining panda & numerals & AOPA & B logo .... Fred has more info than I do , but this answers my Q |

Hi, The asking price is just shy of £2K. Do you chaps think this is reasonable. Not asking for a valuation! Many thanks, Will |

btw , in the 2nd pic it looks like I see a glow from the sticks and hands ? if the watch is all original the lume would only glow very faintly , if it glows at all, as the tritium would have lost (most) of the ability to glow if the watch glows brightly in the dark you can be almost certain work was done on it , either redial or relume |

Hi again, If this is not believed to be a early 2000's Breitling service dial then anybody got any ideas? Can the possibility of it being original be completely ruled out? Thanks, Will |

afraid so, lume clearly isn't 50 years old. |

Thought so. Would you advise against purchasing such a watch? Thanks, Will |

wills0_9 wrote: Thought so. Would you advise against purchasing such a watch? Thanks, Will That's personal choice. Do you want an all original piece or do you want a piece at the price that this one is at? Highly unlikely to find both so it becomes a question of priorities. The original condition ones are out there with some patience. |

and there's still a (very slim) chance that the watch is original and really does look brand new |

Thanks for ytour help on this. I know its my choice now! I would be happier if I was sure it was a legit Breitling service or replacement dial. It comes with the original manual and a letter from Mark Heist of Horological Services stating last service, feb 2012. Perhaps he could shed some light on the dial origin! http://www.horologicalservices.com/ Thanks. will |
