Post subject:  Chronomat 808 bezel question (and picture)

I got an 808 recently. I absolutely love the watch. I would wear it every day if I could. The only problem is the whole bezel/slide rule comes completely off the watch frequently. I have taken it to a reputable watch maker twice and both times he said it was fixed for good. I know that this seems to be a common problem with these watches but the watch barely spends any time on my wrist before it happens again. I am very careful with my watches, it's not like I'm bumping it.

So, what can I do to make this thing stay on? Any suggestions? I want to wear this thing!

Probably best to discuss this with your watchmaker & see if he has any clear understanding as to why this keeps happening. If he knows the reason then he should be in the best position to fix it. There might be one of several reasons the bezel comes adrift & without close inspection any causal identification would be speculation. They are not that complicated but pinning it down needs a close hands on.

When it comes to the vintage Navitimer’s and chronomat’s bezel I have found they are held in place by two internal ring clips between the movement, case and bezel (don’t really know how to explain the this type of layout but it’s impressive). One or both rings may need some sort of a adjustment (because it kinda looks like a c-clamp clip/pin).

On this gold case you can see the two steal clips and the second picture shows the side view (I've added three lines to show the case, first ring and then the second ring.

I had Craig work on mine and it’s been held fast ever since.

Good luck,
