Just bored scouting around ebay I came across this advert.

this is not my auction and I have no connection to the seller but what caught my eye was the fantastic advert and all the info contained in it and what a nice navi it is

well.....
dial lume in sad state, sliderule (not too well) refinished, the least desirable (and collectible) movement ever used in a vintage Navitimer.

far from 1967, the Valjoux 7736 hadn't been launched yet, but 1970s - is that 1,45xx,xxx ? that's strange, would be outside the documented range.

lots of hyperbole, but really not an "extraordinary" Navitimer.

I was meaning the amount of info in the description a lot more than your standard listings, What do we think it will make? I guess between $2200 - $2800

Bill Shaine has used this wording for years, in hundreds of listings, so we almost know it by heart; he just cuts and pastes - and often has errors by copying from one to the other.

anything above 2k would be too high.

But in my experience ebay sales often go higher than what we would pay on watch forums, It will be an interesting one to watch anyway.

Looks like a standard Bill listing for a sub par watch to me - not seeing anything special????

Roff, your eyes are younger; is the serial number 1.45 ? strange.

Definitely *45609, looks like the photo has been cropped to make it impossible to read the rest but it does look like the upright of a 1, could be 1,145,609 which would be 1967.

Hi Fred, roffensian- can you just tell me what details give the slide rule away- I have learnt a huge amount in the small time I've been on this forum and appreciate any info you guys give- it's like freds analysis of this watch- it's gold dust to people looking at collecting these watches or wanting a vintage breitling.

Look at the text of the outer sliderule and compare with photos of genuine ones here. The characters aren't as crisp and the font is wrong.

and in that period we had red markers on dial and sliderule.

here's an example:

earlier dials and sliderules had no red markers, here is a correct sliderule for these:

and to sum it up, there were versions with "boxed 10s":

as I wrote above, R7736 did not exist yet in '67 - launched in '69.
