If you were only going to have on vintage choronograph I'd be interested to know you thoughts between an 810 Top Time and an Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch. In a perfect world I'd have both and many more but that is not going to happen any time soon. Appreciate your pros and cons of both and reasons to pick one over the other. I like the classic look of the 810, but like the history/heritage of the Speedy. Speedy seem a bit more versatile, but in the watch world perhaps a bit more common. |

As much as I love both, I'd pick the Speedie. Versatility as you stated, and it would seem IMO the Speedie just looks more robust for more daily work. |

sadly, as much as I love the 810 (actually crazy about it), if I had to decide and choose between a nice pre-moon and an 810, even I would probably pick the Speedy, Rich. or not. |

Not for me, It's the 810s every time (horses for courses). Surely it's not a fair comparison as the 810 is more of a dress watch and the Speedy a tool watch (ok, not that anyone actually uses these functions anymore). But as much as we like these icons my choice is the 810. |

If it were just down to one, I would pick the one you like best. If a collection, Speedy first. |

A Speedy vs a Navitimer would be a harder choice but vs a Top Time it would be a Speedy mainly because I don't know the heritage behind the Top Time. |

Thanks for all the input...still not 100% sure. Guess I should say that I am leaning toward an 861 cal transitional watch not the cal 321. That seems to hit a sweet spot for me of being vintage-ish but not super collectible, thus the price seems reasonable to me. Still it has the case back before "first man on moon..." and so have nice patina on the face/lume. I was a young kid during the whole space thing and the Speedy really seems like a watch I would have bought if I was in my 20s/30s at the time. I loved anything space related back then. I went crazy on a family vacation to Cape Canaveral....or was is Cape Kennedy ![]() |

I have also seen a picture of him wearing a Navitimer, but then he did have a PPL. Useless fact but if I had been born a year later or he had won his first world championship a year earlier then I would have been called James. Graham |

Recently one of my customers asked me if I thought Lemania movements (as in the Speedy) were more reliable than the Valjoux 72 (he did not ask to compare the Venus 178 as in the 810). I had to admit that based on my experience, the Lemania was more reliable (in terms of parts failures) than the Valjoux 72. If I were to compare the Lemania with the Venus 178, I would have to say the same thing - parts failures are more common on the 178. That said, I would prefer to work on 1) the 72 first, 2) the 178 second and 3) the Lemania last of the 3. The Lemania is harder to work on but rarely has parts failures. |
