Just seeing if there is a collector 'stigma' associated with the plated versions?

I would have thought not, if the plate is in good condition?

Well, no stigma associated. As with all collector watches, Stainless Steel is more in demand, I guess because they are the more researched models, I haven't really seen any serious research on the plated Navis though would have loved to see some on those.

Here's one I have discovered.
It sure looks the goods, and in keeping with my desire to snag a NOS piece. It isn't a 7806, but in the condition this thing is, I don't care!!

clearly a dialfactory ring, not NOS but restored.

Not sure I would call it a stigma Fred, but yes, I am totally biased towards stainless or titanium in general.

Did not stop me from obtaining an early 769 Chronomat in gold though. My only defence is that this was an aberration. :)

Normally, I have no gold. It’s just not my thing.

This is a perfect example of why SS is more collectable. When they are replated (like this one) they just don't look right. This one has other issues as noted, but the gold just looks artificial.

And white hands on a goldplated watch ? ? ?

not sure these are white, just wrong:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151063141406?ss ... 1438.l2649

this is the same seller that has the ref. 810 we spoke about yesterday.
would have no problem with it if he listed these as refinished/restored,
many people like such watches, just annoyed he keeps mum about it.

reason for editing: broke the world record of typos per sentence; content unchanged ;)

Well, to my eyes the subdial hands are correctly gold plated, and the hour and minute hand white painted.

They for sure don't look goldplated like the other 4, and that's what they should

Man, I have a lot to learn about these. I had thought the case, while quite yellow, has a great finish to it.
Vendors assurance is that he merely polished it, but sounds like he's a fibber.
Oh well! Thanks guys, for preventing me making a mistake.

Its not a mistake to buy what you like. Replates only look odd becasue they have fresh gold and no patina. Watches of this age need a certain 'lived in' look to be authentic for their age. If its a replate, then I would not be concerned, as long as it looks good and has been well done. You are getting a great finish, if gold is your thing. I would be angling for a knocked down price though, as it cannot get round the fact the gold is not original. Therefore, although a new finish, its value is less than an original finish. The Vendor may not see it that way though.

The vendor has asserted that he has only serviced it and polished it. Which we now know is not fact. I don't deal with those who seek to deceive, so he can sell it to someone else. Ideally, the gold plated models aren't what I am after anyway. I only mentioned this one as I thought it was in good enough condition to alter my criteria, but this has been proven to not be the case.

The search continues.......

Thanks to the experts!! :lingsrock:
