Post subject: | old breitling pocket watch |
Attachment: pocket watch.jpeg So I what I have is a montbrilliant wm. 7 jewel chronograph pocket watch, marked Switzerland on movement and case, and swiss on the face. It is silver, (at least not steel, non-magnetic). First is it considered a Breitling, it is obliviously made before the Breitling name was added to the pocket watch's being made. It runs perfectly, still zero's out. Also the case number is '0'. Does anyone know anything about this watch and what it is? I was able to only find one site, Chrono 24, that had several of these watches, all newer than mine, mainly two of them looked the same as my watch, except both had a names on the dial and a circle in the center. From what I've read Leon Breitling made this watch, I had it looked at and serviced by a watchmaker, and he was amazed at the movement. If anyone can tell me about it, what I should do with it and so forth. Answer...thanks |

I am on a phone right now so can't se the image very well, but these early Montbrillant pieces were absolutely considered Breitlings, it was the bread and butter business of the firm between the wars before wrist watches started to completely dominate. |

You watch does look to be genuine and might probably be made by Gaston, his son, instead of Leon. It has all the functions of the military ones used in mid-century, so it might even have been made by Willy. You have to be careful in comparing watches posted on the internet. There is one seller, in particular, who thinks that all pre-1933 Lemania movements are actually "Monbrillant" movements and, therefore, tries to pass a lot of pocket and wrist chronographs off as Breitling/Montbrillant. He also wants absurd sums for these watches, which I think he's been flogging for years. From your description, your watch seems to be correctly marked. |
