Gentlemen

I posted picture of my watch about 4 yrs ago just before I had it cleaned - At time if I recall no one had seen this particular watch so today I took it jeweller who kindly removed case back.

Now my problem start's - when I got home and took back off (taped on ) I saw something on inside of back - getting eye glass out it is a very small screw.--I am talking minute-- Now the time part has worked fine but stopwatch side used to stop watch after about 10 min so knew something was wrong so never used it - But now perhaps it was screw coming loose that was causing the problem.

Number on back of case is 949214 - I couldn't see any other numbers on movement only 17 Jewels.

Please copy the pic's for your record if you need them. The watch was purchased by me in 1965 from Watches of Switzerland in Birmingam.

One more thing - Could you recommend someone in UK who could strip watch and replace screw for me.

Thanks

While I am on here can someone please give me some info on watch - ie movement etc - I am going to keep a note of serial numbers and things.

Also again can anyone reccommend a watch repairer here in UK who could take it apart and find where little screw came from and replace it ?? along with a good clean.

Thanks again

Dave

Dave, some info about your watch, with pleasure:
Model ref. 1191, part of the "Cadette" line, actually the only "waterproof" model in this line.

The 10xx and 11xx Cadettes were produced in chrome (or gold) plated base metal cases as far as we know, so yours is either extremely well preserved or we were wrong and there were stainless steel variants, can not see that from the pics ?

Production year (case): 1962
Movement: Venus 188

Regarding the UK watchmaker: this has come up several times, but no clear endorsement for anybody until now; I am sending my watches from Austria to Craig in the US - after trying many other watchmakers in Europe. If u want to go that way (and I highly recommend it), pm member chronodeco; an alternative would be Mark & Theresa Heist, recommended by member Bill in Sacramento and many others; http://www.horologicalservices.com.

Fred

Thank you for that - I was coming to conclusion that Craig may be the only option.

The watch is base metal the plating has worn off just out of picture on right hand strap lug.

Other than that it's not to bad - looks better than picture considering it was on my wrist continuously for 10yrs and riding Triumph T110 all that time and vibration might be cause of screw coming out

Once again thank you the info.

Will update if I get it done.

Dave

My watch came back today. :D

I took the advise of Watchfred and sent it to Craig to be cleaned - serviced and repaired (lost a screw and a hammer was broken) - Craig did a fine job and I am very pleased.

If anyone in UK sends a watch to Craig it would seem FedEx is a better bet than UPS - I should have travelled the extra miles to FedEx depot.

The case is base metal so Craig couldn't polish it but it looks so much better now.

Should have had it done 4 yrs ago.

Hello Gentlemen.

Well it's been 13 years since I signed up to this forum and glad to see some names I remember.

I had to email Craig again after a while and tell him how happy I am with the work he did and I still wear this watch on occasions - I do not go out much anymore due to age (78) and my eyesight is getting worse so my main hobby of Clayshooting has come to a grinding halt which is where I used to wear it.. I am taking it in to local jewelers for bracelet to be shortend as the watch is very lose due to weight loss. I have the tools but not the steady hand or eyesight.

Ps - worked it out and now have smaller picture

Damn -Didn't reduce picture size - as you can see Craig cleaned the watch - I didn't want it restored.

Looks lovely. Wear it in good health.

Craig retired from the watchmaking game several years ago, so the ongoing hunt for watchmakers continues for many!
