Post subject:  Breitling Premier Chronograph dated 1946, info needed

Hi All,

My first post on this forum so hello all!

I've posted pictures below of my Grandfathers Breitling Premier which I have dated to 1946 (I think). It has the below serial number:

661987 782

It's 18ct Gold and has a replacement strap which isn't much good anymore.

I would like some additional information on the watch as I would like to get it restored to its original glory. This watch means a lot to me so i want to treat it with the respect it deserves.

I gave it a wind and it seems to be working fine as does the chronograph, so it may only need a service? Another question would be where would I take this for a proper and professional seeing to? How much does such a thing cost?

Any help on this watch would be much appreciated.

Regards,

G.

782 is the model reference, u are correctly dating it to 1946.

dial and hands look original and seem in excellent shape, movement will be a column wheel Venus 175.

all the watch most probably needs is a service, a new crystal and some cleaning/buffing for the case - would suggest not to wind it too often to run it, oils will have run dry and you might cause damage.

standard suggestion is to pm member chronodeco; Craig is an excellent watchmaker and a nice guy.

Craig prefers not to discuss what he charges, but you'll most probably be pleasantly surprised, it is far less than Breitling charges for servicing their current watches - his pricing is extremely fair.

p.s.: yes, you'll need a new strap too, urgently

Thanks Fred, I'll do that.

In regards to a strap what would you suggest? What would look best on such a watch? I've been looking at a tan leather strap but whee would you purchase it from? I've currently been looking on eBay.

tan leather looks great w/ these dials, calf or pigskin - as does honey croc - watch has a lug width of 18mm, tons of those on offer on ebay; maybe Craig has some nice straps ?

Congrats, looks great and a great heirloom to inherit. I would suggest taking off that metal bracelet since can damage your 18kt gold lugs, try using a leather strap instead!
