Post subject: | Vintage Breitling Find...Newb help please |
I just purchased an estate lot and found this watch in one of the boxes. It seems be running fine and it is an Automatic. Thats all I really know about it. I dont have a clue how to take the caseback off. If someone could enlighten me on how to do so, I will to take pics of the movement. Id like to sell it to recoup the cost of the estate lot. Thanks in advance! 1/15/13 Updated pics to better show dial and movement ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

not automatic, very early 1940s manual wind, can u give us the case diameter ? looks a bit small for a ref. 734 with the Venus 178, so most probably a V152. movement pics and a pic of the inside caseback would be great. |

Removing the caseback is an easy 2 step process: 1) Go to watchmaker 2) Ask them to remove caseback ![]() As Fred says inside of the caseback and movement shots will help us to help you out further. Welcome to BreitlingSource. |

Welcome to BreitlingSource. Understood sir ![]() I need to locate a watchmaker in the southern Maine area. Any recommendations? To open the watch it doesn't matter. For servicing we have a US watchmaker on the site who looks after members from all over the world. But let's make sure that you have a piece worth the investment first. |

hmmmm..... no reference no., but a logo. no exact dating possible, probably mid 1930s, Landeron 42. would love to have others chime in. |

The lack of a model number on a piece this old isn't an automatic issue, and from memory a Staybrite caseback is OK. Other case elements support the early date - drill through lugs for example. Landeron movements are always ones that cause concerns, but with the discussions here over the last year or so it seems to be possible, and period is correct. Dial appears to have had some touch ups made to it, but likely original underneath the white paint, but am concerned about the 3 minute markers on a piece so apparently early - would have been OK with 40s, but if we assume 30s now that we have no model number and a Landeron movement it starts to look as though the dial is too late for the watch???? |
