Congrats, Toni.

I really like this one.

Where did you find it?

Nick

Forget my last question, Toni. I have just seen your previous thread re Old World.

One other question though - do they discount/deal on price? Or is it fixed as per their website?

Thanks,

Nick

Very nice! That's not a piece I would ever have conisdered, but it has a great look, and the colour is bright without being too intense. It's great to see the bracelet looking that good too - you have some value in that alone.

Old World is a great place, though the stock is getting rather low now - inevitable I suspect.

You won't get much of a discount (if any), especially now that the stock is so low. Remember also that you should factor service costs in - these watches have been sitting idle for 30+ years.

LOL! I will save that remark for when I have my next meeting in the UN  this brings "diplomatic-skills" to a whole new level........

Thanks, it runs well but it will need som TLC from a watchmaker in a near future.

Sage advice, as ever, Roff.

As you know, I haven't dabbled on the vintage side before but this one really caught my eye. In the UK, I guess I'd be looking at about £400 for a full service. Do you think the selling price at Old World is about right for this sort of model?

Also, is it a manual wind (as opposed to auto/mechanical)?

Thanks,

Nick

 You're taste is dangerous for me. I've always been more of a classic era guy - 40s and 50s, but some of these late 60s / early 70s pieces are starting to appeal - especially as the prices haven't gone stupid yet. Vintage prices are really starting to get out of hand (from a buyers perspective).

As Toni says, manual wind.

It shouldn't be as much as GBP400 for a NOS piece - remember that the mechanical pieces are essentially brand new, so there shouldn't be much that needs replacing as long as caseback still seals the case - really just an oil change because the oil would long ago have broken down.

Price is difficult, because you are buying a NOS piece that isn't readily available anywhere else. I would say that the prices are fair without being bargains, but a NOS piece isn't necessarily the best purchase for investment purposes, so buy it as a wearer.

Also remember that the technology in these watches isn't as a dvanced as today so definitely think of these as special occasion watches - no sapphire crystals here!!

Invaluable advice. Thanks again.

Toni,

Thanks also (and for letting me hijack your thread!). Wear it in health.
