I have had an old Breitling Stopwatch for forty years. Stamped inside the back cover is: Nickel chromium plated. RR inside a circle with a straight bottom line. Also the number 720965. It is in perfect working order but has a few scratches on the back cover. It is in its original red cloth pouch. Can anyone tell me if it is worth anything please? If so, where would be the best place to try to sell it please? I am a 70 year old lady and I am selling off a few of my possessions to eke out my pension. Any advice gratefully received. Very many thanks in advance. |

Jean, I know very little about stop watches, but I do have some in the reference books - I'll take a look and see what I can come up with. |

Alright, here's what I found out - not much I'm afraid. I believe that 720965 is the serial number, but I don't know if stop watches used the same serial number sequence as the wrist watches. If it's the same then the piece dates to 1948. I don't know what the RR is - maybe initials of the original owner, or maybe some kind of hallmark. Value is very hard to determine - you may get a better idea from seeing what pieces have sold for on eBay, though there aren't many so you may not find anything similar to yours. Based on the guides, most seem to be in the $300 - $500 range unless they have additional complications such as a rattrapante (split timer). As for where to sell - eBay may be the best place - the market for these pieces is relatively small so you need to try and reach as many potential buyers as possible. Sorry I can't be more helpful ![]() |

Dear Roffensian, Thank you so very much indeed for your prompt and invaluable advice and information. I will certainly be guided by you. I am a complete novice and was at a loss about what to do or where to start to value it and set about turning it into cash. Thanks again I really appreciate you taking the time and the trouble to advise me. Jean |
