Hi, I was offered a Ref. 2117 42mm Bullhead (Pupitre) Automatic Movement (one blue dial & one brown dial, and a Ref. 815 38mm Breitling Long Playing Manual Wind. What do you guys think of these two references in terms of wearability and rarity? What price ranges would you expect to see for these two references in mint condition? Thanks much. |

two very, very different watches. the 815 is quite similar to the 810 TopTime, but has the Valjoux 7736 instead of the Venus 178, a great movement in reliability and quality, lots if spares available, but considered a bit of an "ugly duckling". GP pieces in nice to excellent condition rarely sell over the range of 1 to 1.2k, SS go about $300 higher. a very wearable watch, but not rare at all, especially the GP. The Pult/Pupitre Chrono-Matic is one of the watches with the highest discrepancy between asking and real selling prices - often offered BIN or in stores for 4k or more, auctions rarely go above 2.5k. Lots of NOS cases and dials on the market, make sure the movement is correct. quite rare, brown dial considered rarer. though, if it is rarity you are after, go for the 1950s SuperOceans, ref. 807 or 1004 - and bring along a lot of patience .... |

Thank you Fred. Are your price ranges in Euro or US dollars? Also what is the meaning of Pult Pupitre? Where do these terms come from? I was thinking about a larger 47mm like. 2105 but was thinking the 2115 is definitely different. How does it wear on the wrist? Comfortable or bulky? Thanks. RDS |

Switzerland being bilingual (at least the watch industry, leaving out Italian and Raetoroman) German and English, the watch was called Pult in German, Pupitre in French, both meaning "desk". never wore a Pult for an extended period, as I am one of the many that have cases, dial and hands lying around as a project, waiting for an affordable and correct movement ..... a lot smaller than the big case watches, look for Novocastrian's posts in the WWAYWT thread for wrist shots. Dollars or Euro, at current exchange rates and factoring in VAT markets are very similar. |

As far as I know, this would need to be slightly nuanced : NOS 7101 cases are easy to find on ebay, either blue or brown . Non Chrono-Matic Dials or case + dial kits are a bit less common . 2117 cases are not common at all , as Chrono-Matic dials. Hands are common to several Breitling watches using 7740 or cal. 11-12. Some sets have been proposed by watchco in 2010 but they are not so easy to find on ebay . Finding a correct cal 11 or 12 is easier than a 7740 . Many 7103 and 7104 sold by oldworldjewellers have been used as donor watch . Me too, I have a pair of NOS Pult 7101 kits awaiting for completion .2 years ago, I started to collect spares - helped to start by buying some of Lester's function kits . At the time I have 2 kits close to complete and only lack 1 mainplate , 2 chronoplates and 4 or 5 references . Maybe one day... Attachment: DSCF4853.JPG

RDS Sticky at the top of the main forum with over 3,000 posts - easy to miss  - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=326082115 is a nice model - but then so are all of the vintage pieces!!! |

Wearing a Pult/Pupitre is like wearing a doorstop. There's a good reason this design didn't catch on. They are collected as period pieces (and maybe doorstops). |

Can't really go with Bill on that one. I think the pult's great. I wanted one for years nd finally snagged mine last year. As others have said there are plenty of the manual wind ones around (a lot of which are frankens) but fewer of the chronomatics. I love mine.
