Looks like a nice watch, what exact year range were these made in and anyone has a wrist shot if you own one of these, 47mm sounds huge! I see cracking on the minutes hand lume though, not sure.

Also is this price too high compared to what they usually go at?

In a nutshell, the 1809 was the world's first automatic chronograph for sale, Mrach 1969, beating the El Primero by about a month.
The watch you link to has the later hands, shared w/ the GMT; production went on "until the bitter end" apparently, Altro shows
an example from 1977, probably one of the last Breitling manufacured (or a assembled from parts later, as many others?).

yes, it is big, but quite flat and very short lugs, wears nicely - big case on wrist (6.75) below:

Thanks Fred, very informative. I noticed that the casebacks of those watches in your link have markings whereas this one doesn't?

San, it most probably has them, but on many of these these numbers are extremely faded, they polish away very easily.

caseback should be marked externally w/ logo, patent no., model. ref. and serial number.

The white "Spiegeilei" Chronomat would be a 1808, would'n it ?
The 1806 is the "Spiegelei" Navitimer and the 1809 is the "Spiegelei"Cosmonaute .

"Spiegelei" (fried egg) or "Bratpfanne" (frying pan)
1808 Chronomat automatic were available w/ white, Panda and reverse Panda black dials
0818 Chronomat manual like mine above too.
1806/1809 automatic Navi/Cossie

Yes Fred, trusting my memory I was wrong!

In 1969 the Chrono-Matic range litteraly stormed out the manual versions from the catalog .
The codification key for Navi and Chronomat range is as following ( excluding Copilot):
Big case + Chrono-Matic Cal.11 , then 12 , and 14 for 24h versions = 180x
Big case + manual cal. = (0)81x
Small case + Chrono-Matic Cal.11 , then 12 , and 14 for 24h versions = 880x
Small case + manual cal without date = (0)80x
Small case + manual Valjoux 7740 with date = 780x

Thanks Fred. That link you sent mentions that these watches caseback shouldn't be polished, guess for the reason you described and something to do with water resistance.
