have seen several nice 769s go quite high lately, but was surprised by this - nice, but unspectacular - 769 from
the UK today.

nice & I love those as u know so was tempted, although it had no movement shot.
it was hovering around $1k until the final hour, but then it went up to crazy $3,200+

am I missing something about this one ?

caseback looks a bit different from others I know, the serial number 695xxx is outside the document range,
as 46 goes to 692266 and 47 starts with 703562 ?

Well if you're missing it then I am too. Nothing objectionable about it, but very high for a watch with an unknown movement.
