Hi, just curious about what type of gold options were available on Breitlings in 1946? Were rose gold( think my 785 is rose gold), yellow gold and plated gold options on watches back then? Also what year did white gold options start on Breitlings?

some lines were Chromed or GP, some SS/GP/18k; 18k used was slightly "rosé", but not declared as such. no white gold (well on men´s watches at least), no platinum. white gold afaik started rather recently.

Plenty of LEs with platinum in recent years.

San, "no platinum" was regarding vintage pieces, some of the "modern Breitling" watches are (or were) available in pure or partial platinum, though most only as LEs

edit: posting anyway though Roff was faster, this must be the fasted google alternative in the world.

As far as I know, white gold is not used alone for jewelry or watches , as it does not keep a constant aspect . All white gold parts are rhodium plated , so there is no visual difference btw steel + rhodium finish and white gold + rhodium finish . Only the owner can feel the heavier piece on his wrist .

Generally speaking that's true, although rodium plating does wear off over time. Not all jewellery is rhodium plated - I am wearing a white gold ring now that is not plated.

Thanks Roff, Fred. True Roff, I could have googled that one, sometimes take the easier route chatting on the forum because I either forget about Google:) or is cumbersome typing into Google when on the iPhone and switching between pages since am concentrating on the forums. Have to try remember googling too!
