look at this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BREITLING-CHRON ... 0821080152

I cant believe the Heists do this without having the watch in their hands !
this basically validates wrong and incorrect watches ?, or am I missing something ?

Well technically they did say "based on the information you gave" so it doesn't really solidify anything... I'm sure if they do see it they'll state the things wrong with the watch... I just wished they would've wrote a disclaimer saying it doesn't prove authenticity or originality though...

the collectors will ultimately have the last say about this anyway.

I'm OK with that letter - it's not really anything different than we would say if someone came here asking about a watch and providing a model and serial number. We (or at least I) would put a clear disclaimer that I can't talk to the originality without seeing pictures, but then I'm not trying to run a restoration business so I don't need to 'play nice'.

Had a read of the letter too Dracha, it's just reconfirming what we know about serials but true there should be a disclaimer since some might believe it's the final word, but best they don't give such letters pre inspection. Usually people looking to sell request a quote to have their watch inspected. For example, with Rolex you can get a service quote for about $80(or close to that) and so one gets verification about authenticity without a expensive service of $800-1k. Maybe the Heists too should do the same rather than give out a letter like that without inspection even though doesn't state much and is given in all honesty, since that can be misused by a seller.

I don't think Theresa passed along much more than what's in Richter's List of Reference Numbers next to "777." But, the seller is trying to create a provenance that doesn't exist.

How about a peek at the movement? For this watch, it does look like a Breitling case with a poorly done redial, but I think even the first 777 should have a screwback case. It should also have "SHOCK PROTECTED" added to the list of attributes. I can't see even shallow slots for a screwback case, so I don't think it's right.

Agreed, its not the Heists giving out incorrect information but a clear(er) disclaimer in that letter would be nice

funnily enough there's a possibly correct case on Ebay as well
