Just Stunning

totally unpolished , knife sharp edges on the lugs, immaculate movement , lume all intact
some minor scratches on the plexi . I dare say it is 'on par' with Kurt's pieces

and I am thrilled to bits with it ! , and with my hypothesis about the AOPA logo and bead count :D

Thanks Fred !
I am still looking at it with amazement
it may even still have the original lizard strap but I am unsure of that (its not signed)

wanted to ask re the strap, looks like the originals, though that pales in comparison, of course (does the strap taper to 16 ?)

yes it does , and its a very 'thick' and padded lizard strap
but is has 1 more hole compared to Kurt's strap

Nice pick up René, congratulations! You gambled and you won...
No 806 stamped on the outer face of back : I never noticed that before , is it typical of "Broentlings" ?
The strap is nice and amazingly fresh too.

That is indeed what gave these watches away initially and that got people thinking , no 806 stamped
at first (pre-2003?) it was assumed by most people these were not genuine , only after due diligence by some collectors, and Kurt publishing his article, the wider collector base understood these were quite original , unique and very rare

only in the 2nd half of '55 the '806' appeared on the back

Super, I learned something more today! I would prefer one "Broentling" to 100 "Märzling" :nana:

Yes, totally unpolished, but not unrestored, if “on par” means that you “dare say” it meets the condition of my pieces, then I don’t agree.

The Lume is very dark / grey, which also was the reason that I didn’t buy it, as that, is not attractive to look at IMO, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I’m just airing my opinion. It also reduces the value considerable though.

But no doubt that it was a great deal at that price, it is still a rare, and as you say “reasonable and wearable” watch in good condition, and you will easily double your money and maybe even more when / if you sell it.

Thanks Kurt, I'll have it re-lumed (joking)

But the color isn't bad and quite lighter than in the pics, I'll make a proper picture in proper light later
but beggars cant be choosers :D and if there were more pieces to choose from for a reasonable price I am sure we all had the best possible pieces available

but you seem to have them all

p.s. what do you mean 'not un-restored' ?

Yeah :poke:

And please don’t understand me, I’m not trying to shoot your watch down, I’m just that way and aim for perfectionism in every aspect of life. (it’s not always easy)

A new crystal will definitely make it look better, no doubt about that.

Let’s see if somebody can see what kind of restoration has been done to it, if not I’ll get back to it.
