Hello, My father bought this watch brand new in 1962 at the Breitling store in Geneva. It originally came with a leather strap, but that is long gone. Currently it has a non oem metal strap on it. Did Breitling ever produce metal straps for this series? Also who is the best recommended place to do a complete restoration? I've been reading that Breitling doesn't service vintage models any more.

Thanks!

afaik Breitling did not offer metal straps, the jury is still out regarding mesh, but the latest examples seem to indicate there were mesh OEMs.

The standard advice for servicing vintage Breitlings: pm member chronodeco !

Thank you. When contacting Breitling USA, they recommended Mark Heist in Boyertown, PA. Anyone have experience with that shop? Yes, my Dad doesn't recall any metal bands offered, (although that was 49 years ago) only leather and alligator.

Mark Heist is very good, but there's a waiting list of several months and there are more affordable options. BUSA recommends him because he is hte only 'factory approved' vintage Breitling watchmaker. For your needs Craig (chronodeco) is all you need - just spend a few minutes reading feedback and looking at before and after pics on here.

Right on! Watch needs some new hour tick marks as the face is missing 3, as well as a scuff on the brushed metal face, but both should be fixable.

If it's something minor as that, personally I would leave it the way it is... the dial looks good already as it is... adds to the charm!

just a friendly suggestion... but ultimately it's your piece... :D

Mark knows his stuff and I thought the wait was well worth it. Having been Breitling trained and factory certified for nearly 20 years he was the best choice for me, and he specializes in vintage Breitling timepieces. Have patience my friend - You've waited this long... :strummin:

The old transocean had a mesh strap. (see catalogue image)
The LCD watches had metal straps ref. 9402 and 9403. (see photo)
For the rest, i have never seen a metal band except one. I have added the photo as well. The owner claimed that it had the Breitling B on the folding clasp but never sent me any photo's, so i didn't buy it.

Mesh was available as an option from Breitling at least in 1969 on 22mm lugwidth watches
personally I believe they were available earlier as we see in advertisements (ie 1962 cosmo's and others) but I have not yet seen documented proof aside from the one I have from 1969

price was 74 DM in 1969
