I know of the french 'LIP' store selling the breitling watches with LIP on the dial in addition to the Breitling name
here is a LIP AVI 765 but I dont recognise the case ? , no bezel and script Breitling
has anyone seen one like this before ?

quick pic of my TopTime 810 (early mid 60s case) on my wrist looks quite similar, would be good to see the caseback:

Yes, that's the correct case for a ref 765. I've seen a couple of these before over the years and this one looks fine from what I can see. I would put the price somewhere in the $2400-$2800 range though.

what confuses me (still) are the AVI hands on the LIP one
but it doesnt have a 15 minute totalizer but the lume stripes are consistent with AVI (slight indentations on the lume) and triangular marks at 3 , 6 , 9

and I just noticed the auction seems to be gone , glad I saved a pic

Nice dials !
would these 765's be called AVI ? , or don't they have AVI engraved on the back and only have the ref. 765 ?

No they just say 765 on the back. Interesting thing about the 765 is I've had one of each from 1965, a 765 AVI, 765CP (Copilot), and the 765. Hard to believe they made all three versions the same year.

I picked them up off of ebay a few years ago. I wasn't real sure which model they went with and thought the top one was maybe a Topt Time until I saw the ref 765. The bottom one I'm still not sure about but I think maybe a 7650, or something like that, with an inner bezel around the dial. It would be cool to find something to use them in.

I've also seen this watch over the years. I'd always assumed it was a special order for Lip. It's interesting to note that the 765 also comes with a double branded dial in the US with Wakmann.

They were a major French manufacturer and distributor, which according to this article ditributed Breitling in France from 1968 to 1973.

Welcome back, Yaffle ! Good to see you on the forum again !

LIP is an interesting brand. some watches were co-branded LIP & Breitling, some others carry only the LIP logo, but are very, very close to Breitling models of the same period; one of these is currently on sale from France, looks like a very well preserved TT ref. 2000.

Thsi one has the wrongs hands but is otherwise correct and probably not too bad a deal.

this has been listed for some time, but this seller is listing so many frankenfakes that I would not buy from him, though this seems good. this is the guy who had Bills "onbridge" logo !

Yep, he does have some questionable stuff but I bought a gorgeous Breitling Transocean from him a few years ago that was very nice. I think he does get good pieces in like this one and adds what needs to be added to get them sold. He's very careful in the description of this 765 in referring to "original dial, original case" etc but nothing about the hands. As with anything else from South America there are genuine Breitlings that appear occasionaly but you better do your homework and know what you're looking at.
