Just wanted to share a (rather poor) picture of my new addition -- with respect to which many of you were instrumental. Many thanks to Fred and Roff, and everybody else. (Though I warn you that my wife is not quite as appreciative that you have hooked me on this area of interest...)

Does anyone have thoughts about how often I can actually wear it? Indeed, I'd wear it every day if I could....

Nice!

There's no reason why the watch can't be worn regularly, I have many 60+ year old pieces that run permanently. Just bear in mind that the watch should be assumed to have no water resistance so don't expose it to situations where it could get wet.

Usually with vintage watches they aren't as accurate as modern pieces so it works best to wear them sparingly like to the theater or a dinner. If I encounter rain they come off immediately and go into my pocket. Too expensive to risk damaging in most cases. The nicer the watch the more reluctant I am to risk damage by wearing it. It just takes a second of inattention to bang it on a door jam.

Iddo, what a beautiful watch, congrats !

Most of the watches I wear are vintage and between 40 and 70 years old; assuming you lead a desk- and armchair-centered life when you are not on vacations, the only reason to put it away is when you have pieces (your wife will hate me!) you would like to put on when you add more vintage or current watches to your collection. Mechanically, when your watch is freshly serviced and lubricated, there is no reason at all not to wind and run it.

I understand Paul´s reluctance to damage a valuable watch, and do not expose mine to torrential rains, always put them off when washing my hands etc., similar to how I treat my modern watches; my reason for collecting watches is not putting them away for future generations (or resale), but using and enjoying them as much as I can.

When are you getting your 806 ?

Thanks Fred! I'm really enjoying it. I spoke on a panel the other day and I'm pretty sure that the audience thought I was bored because I kept looking down at my watch. (Well, they were partly right, anyway.)

I've been wearing it almost daily, but have been very careful with it, as you say. Take it off when washing hands, and haven't worn it on rainy days. The seller told me that it had just been serviced, so I agree -- no reason not to enjoy it.

As you can imagine, I'm now trolling the world for the perfect 806. My wife warns me that if I go about it the same way as I got this watch --buy first, apologize later -- there will be nobody left to apologize to when I buy my third one. Nice. A divorce would definitely put a dent in my watch budget.

let me add some advice from personal experience: a pair of nice earrings, a nice bag, a ring that accompany a new watch into the family help to appease ...... more fun and definitely cheaper than a divorce.
