Post subject:  Yet again, is this watch legit?

Hi!

I have a watch that I think is at best a real Breitling 1190 from the 1950 but with the wrong dial, or at worst, yet again a Frankenbreitling based on the venus 188. I do not have pictures of the case back, but it has a serial number in the 79XXXX serie, and the 1190 model number. The stem and the crown where missing, I had a spare stem for the venus 188, and I may have the correct crown if I can get my hand on a picture.

Any info on either the "Metric" dial or the Breitling (or not) of this watch would be welcome.

Thanks,

Grabriel

The case is 'Breitling like' and with the numbers that you give I'm prepared to accept that it's an early 50s 1190 case. The dial is a more honest one than most - I would have to look Metric up but I assume one of the countless no name brands of the era.

The bridge stamping looks good, but it's the easiest logo to fake and 51 would be very early for this kind of logo. I'm tempted to believe that it's a real bridge transplanted onto a no name movement - compare the wear and colouration against other bridges and plates.

May be a Metric made by Breitling.

Hardly a credible seller!

It is the watch that is of interest, not the seller, who is only an ebay agent without a special interest in the watch.

I think that every serious member here knows who you are / who you represent so I will make no further comment.

Metric SA, Grenchen.

There is no reason to think there is an affiliation with Breitling. But, we encounter the unreasonable often enough, I think.

Thank you for all this info! Now, before I put my tweezers in the belly of this watch, does anyone have the technical documentation for the venus 188? (the long one, with assembly and dis-assembly) It's been a while since my last chrono, and at first sight there is a screw or two that have been replaced by not-so original ones by previous watchmakers...
