Post subject:  Buy/ replace stem on my vintage Breitling.

Hello everyone.

This is my first post, and im going to ask for help.

Stopped by my AD earlier today for him to take a look at my watch. He said there was no way around sending it to the factory for replacing stem/ crown and a total overhaul of my watch. The watch has been perfect until the stem broke, keeping good time and all.

Is this correct or can i buy and replace the stem myself? How do i know which stem to buy?

I really like this watch, and want to use it more. But its kind of though to spend atleast 1200 dollars for repair.

Thanks for helping.

It's not a do it yourself job - and the watch will need a service anyway. Your best bet would be to contact chronodeco on here and he can do the work for you for a heck of a lot less than $1,200, but....................

What are the numbers on the caseback of that watch - I'm not convinced that it's correct.

Yeah, I'm not convinced that's anywhere near a genuine Breitling. Dial looks like a redo and the movements rotor looks modified. The back will tell the tale.

Unfortunately I'll have to agree with the rest of the gang... :(

You might be better off buying a "new" authentic piece for a heck of a lot less than 1200 bucks... This watch is not a Breitling I'm afraid...

Same opinion from me. And never, ever go to this "AD" again, who tried to rip you off with suggesting a restoration of this piece for US$ 1,200. Even if it was authentic - which it most probably isn't - the current market value would be a fraction of this, a stem replacement should not cost more than 10%.

This is really a sad story but I have seen it before. Someone buys a fake Breitling and then someone else who doesn't know what they are talking about tells them to send to Breitling for repairs which they will turn down because they will not work an a fake! Screwed once and nearly a second time! Sad.
