There are so many fakes on the bay at the moment, but I really like this one:

They just added the Breitling script logo to a Venus 170 Chronographe Suisse, without even bothering to remove the original CS logo.

a BIN of "only" US$ 3,650,--

Out of the UK, not Argentina, Urugay, Peru, Italy, Turkey ....
but you get a (almost authentic) box with it !

Looks like they used a texta/ magic marker for the Breitling script too.

It's the boxes that add the real value to the asking price.

Seriously, though, the current and somewhat worrisome trend on display here is the addition of dial text to an otherwise original and aged dial (this one has had the numerals re-luminated, too). I think it is now pretty common to have text added to a existing, lovely dial. [See our discussion of "Giro d'Italia" below.]

If there was a International Court of Watch Trade Justice, I would indict on two counts:

1. Perpetrating a fraud.

2. Disfigurement of an otherwise lovely and perfectly collectible watch.

Did mention the box, although I´m afarid it is not authentic, but stil ....

It really is fraudulent and I would love to have them b4 your ICWTJ, Bill !
In a way we are doing this here, although we only indict the most pathetic cases.
This one definitely qualifies for the VHS (Vintage Hall of Shame); as you said, guilty of fraud AND destroying a perfectly nice watch.

It appears from the sarcastic comments posted on this site that I have made a mistake in buying this watch in good faith 4 years ago from a dealer. Can someone explain why the movement is stamped Breitling, it has 17 jewels, also stamped, and also stamped swiss made. The inside of the caseback which is engine turned is also stamped Breitling and has a service mark. The case on the outside is hallmarked for 18k, and underneath that is stamped 3500, under that is 26. As I said earlier, I bought this as a Breitling. As the saying goes- If it quacks like a duck, IT is a duck! PS The box is not the original.

We're sorry we hurt your feelings. If you can contact the person from whom you bought the watch, we'll try to help you get your money back. Really.

Here, we collect vintage Breitlings and, just speaking for myself, don't really care much about ducks.

It would be good if you showed more images of the watch. [Did you notice that you have more images of the box than the watch?] The numbers you are describing on the caseback are consistent with this watch being a "Chronographe Suisse." I'm also guessing there is a big metal ring around the movement and it is marked "METAL" and it probably has a Landeron movement.

You should not take our word for it. You should hit the books and study vintage chronographs and vintage Breitlings. I think you'll quickly see we are only trying to be helpful.

dear petferang, I also apologize if our - admittedly sarcastic - remarks about this watch were unfair, because you bought this watch in good faith and are now selling what you believe to be an authentic Breitling.

But facts are facts.

This watch clearly is not a Breitling, it is a typical double caseback Chronographe Suisse, although it does have a higher end Venus 170, not the more frequently used Landeron.

The markings on the bridge and the caseback were added like the dial logo: to add high end brand value to a noname watch.

Again, sorry if you felt you were unfairly treated, but the watch you are selling is fake, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

I think that it's been said.

A very little amount of research would show that this watch is a poor attempt to create a Breitling. I am sorry that you bought the watch after having it misrepresented to you - you now know how a buyer will feel if they buy this watch now.

When members here point out to them and to eBay that you were advised that the watch was not as advertised and yet the listing is still active they may have a rather different reaction!

I appreciate your advice and have removed my listing, I can only put this down to experience.
