These are such a crapshoot... wish this one had better pics of the dial...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT

Probably the best one i've found....... so far...

now the questions...

1) can that engraving be removed?
2) is the serial # legit? (he's claiming 1930's but way too early in my opinion)

my analysis... script looks a bit iffy but everything else looks fine... anything else I'm missing?

I feel that my small chronograph collection is not complete yet without a ref. 178 with a 170... :D

Won't die if I can't pick this one up though... with patience I'm sure there are other better pieces out there... it'll probably cost more to restore it to its original glory...

Hi,comparing it to the one I have, the dial script is ''heavier'' than mine, also AFAIK serial Nos should be six digits , mine is 577+++ which puts it at 1945. my advice would be to keep on searching. Regards.

Since the serial number doesn't make sense for a Breitling of that period, and the dial is an obvious redo, I'd say the entire watch is a fake. Can't tell from the movement pic because the quality is too poor.

The movement looks old, but agree with others that this aint no Breitling. Keep looking!
