Here's a 1945 Duograph on that auction site:

I don't recall seeing the Breitling engraving on the balance cock before, and that style looks a little suspect to me.

It is a "Dual Use" crown

. . . page 27 of the Esembl-O-Graf Chronograph Watch Calibre Guide, which shows the "Breitling" signature of the sample Venus 179 image. For this serial number and reference number, I would expect a third button. I think the "dual-use" crowns came just a few years later, but not in 1945 and as shown in the 1946 catalog.

I think this has a replacement rattrapante sweep second hand and a re-painted dial. I wonder if the 30-minute register really increments in 45-minutes, since that would be the 762 spec.

This would be a good one to handle for inspection. Since the movement parts show a real difference in discoloration, I wonder what an experienced watchmaker like Craig makes of a bridge so much more oxidized/corroded than most of the other movement parts. That may not be unusual, I just don't know. [I just know that for my projects, the crappy bits seem pretty uniform throughout the movement.]

It just might be that this one has been through a long and extensive period of rehabilitation.

Hi Bill:

Just curious which year is the Breitling Lounge catalogue from (it shows both "Dual Use" crowns and crown buttons)?

That is the page from the 1946 catalog (re-printed by Historymania in Pennsylvania) and you may be right that there are dual-use crowns in some of those models . I was looking at the square-pusher 762 and 783 with what must be the Venus 179 movement.

Are there any sources for each years' catalogues? I would be interested in seeing 1947. Was there one published for that year (or even 1945)? Thanks....

I don't believe there is a Breitling catalog for each year. Maybe not even brochures for most years. And some of the brochures are difficult to date. The recent Breitling: The Book is good for spotting most of them, I think. In this period there is a big catalog for 1946 and a six-page catalog for 1952. I don't know of anything in between. There is a brochure from around 1960 and the The Book shows two from the early 1960s (but I'm at work and not remembering correctly).
