they may not look like much and some may even say "dirty old watches" .. but I like them.. a lot !

the Cosmo is a 1963 , small rice bead bezel , all looks OK 'cept the crown and one of the subdial hands and possibly the second hand (which I all have an original spare for) And a much coveted AVI from 1965, lume looks faded and I wonder why , normally the lume looks pretty good on AVI's and Co-Pilots as they are waterproof . Maybe this one isnt completely watertight ?
I will take more pics when they arrive and decide then if they need anything done except a good polish with Polywatch . I do have a spare plexi so thats an option for the Cosmo if all else fails

Thanks Roff !

Kurt , Bill, anyone else
would you happen to know if the large (chrono) seconds hands is of the correct type , just straight as you can see in the pic, for this 1963 Cosmo ?

I was researching and came across this text:

(From an Ebay auction from Billshaine)

IN 1962, BREITLING INTRODUCED A 24 HOUR VERSION OF THE NAVITIMER CALLED THE COSMONAUTE WHICH WAS FRENCH FOR "ASTRONAUT". THE 1962 MODEL INCLUDED A UNIQUE SECOND HAND, WHICH WAS ABANDONED SOME TIME IN 1963 IN FAVOR OF THE NEW HAND SETS THAT WOULD BE INTRODUCED IN THE 12 HOUR VERSION IN OR POSSIBLE DECEMBER OF 1963. LATE (DECEMBER) 1963, BREITLING INTRODUCED WHITE SUBDIALS WHILE CONTINUING WITH THE BEADED BEZEL. THESE ARE VERY SCARCE. SOME HAVE SHOWN UP WITH 1964 HANDS, WHILE OTHERS HAVE THE EARLIER HANDS IN USE SINCE 1954.

thanks for your input

Alan Trott has a pretty good history - http://forums.watchuseek.com/f39/breitl ... -4034.html

I personally would have expected an arrow chrono seconds. The hand that Bill Shaine refers to is (I assume) the one in the advertisement that Alan mentions as being published in Life and Newsweek.

I just had confirmation from Bill Shaine that he believes it needs a 'small arrow' chrono hand , not the straight one

So Crown, subdial hand, chrono hand and a good plexi polish for the Cosmo

Two great watches. Love to see them when they've had a service.

We are all guessing here, my guess is it lost the arrow during service, and that the hand is the original one, I wouldn't pay much attention to it.

It looks like the Tritrium has been washed away from the numbers , is it the light or am I right ?

Thanks Kurt , when the watch arrives I'll decide what to do with it (the chrono hand)
I will let you know when the watch arrives about the lume , I guess its broken/washed away
