I have a Breitling that I inherited from my father and I am trying to identify it. The serial # on the back is 820339 and the number below that is 796. It is 18K yellow gold. It may have been purchased in Europe.

I would send pics but I can't seem to take one that would be of any use. Any suggestions there?

Thanks,

Paul

Have to be honest and say that I don't think it's right - script Breitling dial, print Breitling caseback sets all kinds of alarms off. I think that the case could be correct, but son't think that the dial started life with that watch. Any chance of pictures of the movement and inside of the caseback?

How do I pull it off?

I can't find anything on a 796. Is there such an animal?

Sure there's a 796 - Venus 175 / 176 powered and it had square pushers - I don't see much wrong with the case - it's the dial that bothers me.

The caseback will pop off with a thin blade - be careful - you don't want to scratch the movement. Take it to a local watchmaker if you prefer and they'll be happy to help you.
