Post subject:  Hello and a query regarding my 1806 chronomat

I have had my Navitimer chronomat model 1806 from new. I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions for me.

I sent it back to Breitling in Switzerland for a service. This was quite a while ago, but i have not really worn it a lot since then.

I have a couple queries.

What is the original lens for the watch. It came back with a fairly domed lens and I think it had a flat lens before. Can someone confirm what is original.

The Bezel is seized. This is not due to lack of use, it was extremely stiff when it returned from the service and now I cant move it.

And finally the watch loses around 35 seconds a day. Is this what I should expect.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Nicky

Original crystals were reasonably flat, but they aren't that easy to find, which is why Breitling would have used what was to hand.

The bezel could be any number of things, don't force it (obviously), it probably needs service attention. In terms of accuracy, modern watches need servicing every 5 - 7 years, and vintage pieces will need more frequent attention. You said that the service was quite some time ago, so it may need another service. You don't need to send these pieces to Switzerland for servicing, there are plenty of other options depending on where in the world you are. If the service was only a couple of years ago then it may simply need regulating which any competent watchmaker should be able to do for you.

Thanks for the reply.

That makes sense about the crystal, it just does not look quite how it used to, obviously. Slightly kicking myself for not requesting the old one back. It was not in to bad condition.

I think it was getting on for about five years, so it sounds like it is due another service.
I am based in the UK, where would you or anywhere else recommend for servicing.

Breitling UK (Tunbridge Wells) service vintage pieces. They'll still be expensive, but I don't know of any UK independents. Kurt B is based in Denmark and he likely knows of some reliable UK watchmakers who can assist.

There is a company in London called SuperlativeTime who specialise in vintage Breitlings.

I have an 0819 Cosmonaute that was serviced by them via the previous owner and it keeps perfect time, it has however been sent back in as the Chrono sticks.

My 1806 Chrono-Matic has just been returned from a very comprehensive overhaul at Breitling UK and it looks simply amazing! See the pics in this thread.
