Evening (or morning or afternoon). Very informative site and will probably put me on the slippery slope but c'est la vie!

I've toyed with the idea of getting a Navitimer and I've kept an eye on some of the older models which, whilst not always mint, have a certain character about them

Then, I spotted this on ebay. I assume this is a fake as there are a lot of references to moody watches coming out of South America. What I am more interested in is, what model is this based on if a fake? As a dress watch i think it's extremely elegant but can't believe that any 50's Breitling in good condition is going to be anything less than many thousands of pounds?

It's claiming to be a Breitling 1352, which is a round watch with small seconds and an 18k case. This one's claiming to be 1956.

I'm not sure why it went this high - gold I guess, but you can find good quality SS Breitling dress watches of this era for well under $1,000.

This one is wrong - the dial is an obvious redial and a Breitling gold case watch has a gold caseabck - SS was only used on rolled gold / gold filled or gold plated pieces.

Any simple reason why vintage Breitlings of this type don't fetch 'much' money? Is it because it's a relatively simple watch? Either way, that's good for me as can keep an eye out for this type!
So you think this was a particular case with maybe a substituted Breitling mechanism, substituted dial and replacement caseback? Not really original is it but not a fake at the same time?

I'm not sure what to make of it to be honest - the caseback doesn't look bad, but it's not gold which is wrong for the model number - weird. The dial is definitely wrong, not sure on the movement, would need better shots. My guess is 'frankenwatch' made up of bits of a number of watches rather than outright fake.

In terms of prices - like everything else it's about what the market is prepared to pay. Breitling is known as a chronograph producer so the dress watches are less popular, they also aren't overly rare (although there are a lot of fakes / frankenwatches) and they aren't particularly special or unique pieces in most cases - generally Felsa movements.

Also remember that a good Navitimer 806 can go for only $3,000 or so and a rare rattrapante may well be below $10,000 - these just aren't seen in the same way as a Rolex.

I have watched and stored EVERY Breitling dresswatch (1 crown) picture, price and seller over the last 3 years (nearly 4 now) on Ebay and some classified ad sites in Netherlands and Germany and Austria. I have NEVER seen a real Breitling dresswatch from South America. You can draw your own conclusions...
