There's your answer.

It's a frankenwatch.

The fact that there is another watch company name tells you all that you need to know. Someone has just added the Breitling's later without any real attempt to cover up what they have done. I don't recognise the export code (uzo), but that's likely Crossroads too - it's definitely not Breitling.

Strange. To me it looks like the Crossroads watch co. is what's been added. The wrong bridge does not a 100% fake make. Could simply have been a resourceful watchmaker using what he had on hand to make a repair. Enough wrong with it to negotiate a low price only if the irregularities don't bother you while it's on your wrist. 8)

Balance cock is non Breitling as well though Paul, and why would a caseback also have Crossroads?

Yeah, I meant balance cock not bridge. Another plain balance cock in it and nobody would have a problem with it. You know, I think I've seen one other Navitimer like this that said Crossroads on it a few years ago. I remember trying to find some information on Crossroads Watch Co. then and couldn't. It could be the same watch actually. But if you look at the Crossroads Watch Co engraving on both the bridge and caseback, that looks like what's been added. The Breitling information looks pretty good like it was there first. Just makes it all that more of a bigger mystery to me. Maybe Crossroads Watch Co was invented somewhere to get the watch into a country similar to what Wakmann did with early Breitling's. I mean we don't know for sure do we.

True enough.

I just checked the import code and uzo is not on my list of valid codes - I have a UXO (Wega), but not UZO; also nothing for Crossroads. I also can't find any mention of Crossroads in any of my books.

I agree that without that we would be saying that it looks like a good 1957 (not 59) example, with just the slightly funky 806 on the caseback being the only possible cause for concern.

Were there any other companies during that era that used the 178? From my observation seems the 178 was exclusive to only Breitling... :?: :?

Breitling was the largest by far, but not exclusive I don't think. Zodiac springs to mind as another.
