Hi. I'm new to these forums. I recently started hunting for a pre-1950's Breitling watch. Something simple. I'm glad I came to this forum because now I have a much better sense of how many of the watches are actually fake on ebay. What about this one?? http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Swiss-BREIT ... 1e5e34a53a I wasn't able to find a picture of similar model anywhere, so I have my doubts. any assistance would be much appreciated. This same ebayer has another one listed. http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Swiss-BREIT ... 1e5e5523ad Looking at the other items in this persons store, I have a feeling they're fake. A lot of bids on the first one. |

Why do you think it looks redone? Also, what model would this be? I actually like the design of it. I just don't want a fake. Maybe ebay isn't the way to go?? |

Same concers with both of them - definitely redials (though consistent), the condition is too good to be original. Crown looks correct, hands are wrong, and I suspect that the movement is a replacement in both watches - logo doesn't look correct. I'm not convinced by a solid balance wheel either. |

Thanks for the reply. I think I might stay away from ebay, given all the fakes out there. Any recommendations on where I might find a legit vintage Breitling? |

There are plenty of 'legit' 100% authentic vintage Breitling's on ebay. You just have to educate yourself as to what you're looking at. Don't be fooled that just because a reputable store or dealer is selling a vintage Breitling that it's authentic. Dealers also get fooled by the old stuff and sometimes, unwittingly, resell them to the public. Just run any potential purchases through this forum before purchasing. Always better to send just pictures vs links of potential purchases if you don't want to get sniped. ![]() |
