Hi,

I am new to watch collecting and have always been fascinated with Breitling watches. I came across this watch on ebay and was hoping to get feedback on some questions I have.

1. Since this watch was sent to Breitling for a complete refinishing, does this lower the value of the watch?

2. Is it safe to say that this it is authentic because it was sent back to Breitling for refinishing. Is there a way to confirm its authenticity through the pictures.

3. One of the price guides valued this watch in the $2K range is $3-$4k too much to pay for this watch?

I've kept my eye on this one for a minute... just to see if anyone will pick it up at this price... my opinion is the BIN is too high... maybe even the starting bid...

from the looks of it everything looks top notch... the bracelet is not original but a newer style, but adds a nice touch IMO...

A vintage piece's price is determined by what the market will pay for it... by sending it into a restoration service will not necessarily devalue a piece, but the money put into servicing cannot usually be added onto the overall value... but it certainly helps when selling it...

Hope you find what you're looking for... the one you posted will make a fine first vintage piece... you're very fortunate to be able to commit to a piece like that in the beginning~! Good luck

Nice piece, but you are definitely paying for looks at that price. At the end of the day it's a nice watch, but 'only' a 1970 1809 (with some aftermarket engraving on the caseback - no idea what the SS code is all about).

I also wonder why there are no movement shots?

Social Security number, which lessens the value about 25% in my book. Who wants to go around with someone elses Social Security number on their watch? What I can tell you is the person with that Social Security number is still alive because you can check the Death Index on the web and it doesn't show up in there.

Hmm, that is a bit odd. Seems like a strange thing to engrave on something too - or is that a US thing??

A US SSN is about the last thing you would put on a tangible item. Too much can be discovered about a person with a SSN. It must have been put there a long time ago. Or by someone who didn't care about things like identitiy theft. Just silly.
