I recently rediscovered an old breitling chronograph. It doesn't run, and is in pretty tough shape. I think it is one my Uncle used during WW2. I need someone to tell me is it worth the cost to repair, or would someone be interested in it for parts. The pictures are either real closeups, or not closeups at all. I hope the picture files attach ok. The numbers on the case back are 587612 178. I thank anyone for any information they can provide.

Reference 178 is a fairly common piece to find with the Venus 170 movement. Can't tell much about the condition from the pictures but the serial number dates it to 1945.

Service should cost around $200 to $300. It would be worth around $500 to $700 running and serviced. Contact me if you want to have it repaired/restored. Thanks, Craig

Somewhat concerned about the condition of the bridge relative to the rest of the movement.

Would like to see a full movement picture.

I have a friend with a better camera that can take macro picures. I will try to send some better ones. I have a microscope with a camera, and a point and shoot, but nothing in between. I thank everyone for their replies.

I missed one awhile back on ebay... nice piece~!

but the bridge signing seems a bit out of place... AFIAK I've only seen bridges that were not signed...

but the engraving seems pretty legit too...

I'm not at all convinced that bridge is original to a 1945 Breitling.

I've been looking around for some 1945 movement pictures so I can maybe see what you are trying to say about the bridge. I did find a 1945 officers watch that looks like it has the same hands and face.

It's much more common for bridges that early to be unsigned.
