I recently bought this watch on a market in Istanbul, I think quite cheap, and I really like it. Anybody who can tell me a bit more about this watch: Breitling Chronographe, Venus 170? About 1940? The case is 18K gold, all case items individually stamped with goldmark. It probably has a new crown, but it looks original. The glass (perspex) looks new, but original. The dial-plate is with roman numbers, and I have not seen this on internet. The watch runs quite accurate, only need to re-adjust time, 1 minute or so, every 7-8 days. I appriciate any info. |

Looks like it was originally a Chronographe Suisse and someone added Breitling to the dial and to the bridge of the movement. There were a lot of these Chronographe Suisse watches made during this period and they typically have rather thin gold cases and dent very easily. I bet it doesn't have a six digit Breitling serial number inside the back case either. |

How can I recognize if Breitling was later added to the dial. The bridge also is marked Breitling, of course this could be added later too? But why would one do this? It's still a nice watch, anyhow. I was indeed puzzled by both Breitking and Chronographe Suise on the dial, but did not realize this were two different brands. Thanks for info. Quick search on internet shows the backplate is consistent with Chrongraphe Suise. |
