Hey guys,
Any ideas about how/ where i could go about getting a Valjoux 7740 movement? I've been looking into getting a Bullhead for a while and am exploring the option of sourcing case and movement seperately and then having my watch maker put them together. Don't fear, I'm not looking to sell a Frankenwatch. This would be for me to keep; not to sell.

If you can't find one from the major suppliers - Jules Borel or Otto Frei (www.julesborel.com, www.ofrei.com) then you will likely have to find a donor or keep an eye on eBay. You tendto see more parts than complete movements there, but worth watching.

Hi all,
Roff, thanks heaps for that. I find this website a gold mine for useful information, especially since I'm pretty new to this whole game.

I have tried Jules Borel without luck and will call Ofrei (he's not keen on email according to his website). Are there any other movement suppliers that you guys might suggest? Anyone who may have a movement squirrelled away somewhere?

Also, can you guys think of another movement that might fit into that case? Its not something I'm keen on doing. I'd much rather use the kind of movement that was originally in it. But it may be a case of "needs must".

Hey,
Thanks for that. I've actually learned a good lesson thru this process; its not worth messing around trying to piece stuff together. You're better off buying properly.

I bought a pult case + dial on ebay which i hoped to put a movement in. But then I noticed that the case and dial were from different model pults!

The case was for the Valjoux 7740 pult (where the crown sits at the top between the pushers). But the dial was from the Chrono- matic Calibre 11/ 12 pult (where the crown sits at the bottom of the case). Basically the seller has found a case and dial and put them together. If you used them you'd end up with a manual wind watch which says "Chrono- matic" on the dial!

Unfortunately i didn't notice it until after i had won the auction (but thankfully before i paid). The seller was good enough to let the transaction be cancelled. But i think the moral to the story is... don't mess around trying to peice together the vintage watch you want. Spend more and buy it complete from a reputable seller.

So i'm back to saving up the extra dosh for a proper pult!
