hello there, i changed the old not working esa 900.231 movement for a new one (NOS) but now when i am not wearing the watch it runs great ( even for a week or so ) but when i put on my wrist the digital part goes nuts...... When take it off again i can reset the time and date after a while and it runs great again. The analog part keeps running great while the digital part fails at that moment. It looks like when the watch contacts my wrist it makes a shortcut or something. Who can help me with this problem ???? Thanks for so far. Fred |

to check that put a bit of plaster/Band aid on the back of the watch then wear it and see if it does the same. ![]() |

Fred You've just learned the cruel hard fact that, even being nos, your new movement is still 20 years old and old electronics are old electronics. You need a replacement movement to fix the problem. If you can send the movement back (the guy in Switzerland?) that's what I'd do. The ESA Y2 900.231 is historically unreliable, not supported any longer by Breitling, and prone to problems with most of the problems coming after they have aged about 10 years. It's funny that you mentioned that while on your wrist is when it has problems. I have a theory on that since I had the exact same problem on a Breitling Intruder with the later Y652 quartz movement. It ran fine sitting on my desk but once on my arm for a few minutes the digital display went crazy. My theory is the old electronic circuits are affected by body heat. Micro cracks in the pressed or soldered in circuits expand and contract because of temperature and these faults appear only when this happens. It might also be a pure resistor or capacitor problem also. In any case, I think it's a temperature issue. I had to find a replacement movement to fix the Pluton. That's the peril of having the 2300. Cool watch but REAL risky to put any money into. |
