Too bad it has the wrong bezel on it and the chances of finding the proper bezel are slim. (Pg 88 Richter)

I've heard it said that you have as much chance of finding the winning lottery ticket in the street as you have
of buying it.

I'd put that about the right odds of finding the bezel for this - but you never know!

The bezel is dished at an upward angle to the case, I believe it's made of bakelite.

You are right. But maybe you even find another SuperOcean with bad dial or broken movement.

The guy bidding on it is probably the guy that has the right bezel or knows where to get it.

You guys are of course right.

It just depends what you have to pay for it, I'll be surprised if it doesn't go up a bit more before the end of the auction.

The guy has not, but it is an investment on the future. Of course it depends on the price.

. . . it has an incorrect crown. Because of the width of the bezel, the crown needed to be extend out to be functional. Yaffle's image shows that well.

I just glanced at it. Is there an image of the movement?

Missed this in the rather brief visits that I have been able to make in the last few days.

It is a rare piece, but it's not unknown - there are pieces out there that come up every so often, and with the recent SOH pieces they seem to be coming out of the woodwork a little more. I think I would wait for a better condition one to show up - it's bound to appear in a few months.

I'm not sure about the crown itself, but for sure not all of them came with this extended crown?

As the example posted earlier shows.

I have seen this extended sleeve over the crown before, but wonder if it was either a later modification by Breitling, or a third party modification.
Perhaps intended to modify it into a screwdown crown or to add some further water proofing.
