Hi,
I am new on this forum but fan of Breitling for years, having already a Montbrillant Eclipse and an Aerospace.
I recently bought on e-bay a vintage "Breitling" with Felsa 693 signed movement.
I always thought it is a fake. The back is definitiveley wrong but I know that Breitling used some Felsa 690, 692 and perhaps 693 in the 50's.
Anyway the movement works perfectly (+2s/d).

What do you think ?

Thank you.

It's a shame, I think that this watch is largely original and someone has devalued it by scrawling Breilting all over it - taking a genuine, watch and turning it into something that it clearly isn't.

...if you're going to re-brand a watch, though...

...it's a good idea to scrub off the real brand first...

In the bay (http://cgi.ebay.de/OROLOGIO-ENICAR-AUTO ... 1c10131b30) there is a similar watch. Not ENICAR either.

Another watch (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 3D1&_rdc=1) seems to be very original, refusing to tell us the family name though.

Regards,
Chris

Tom,

INCASTAR seems not to be the brand of the watch but the name of a regulator.

...I guess this Incastar regulating feature could have been found in some Breitlings with Felsa 69x Bidynator movements then, so no give away on legitimacy in that regard after all (although did Breilting go that nuts with the caseback nomenclature in the 40s/50s?).

this watch is 100 % not Breitling,

but Breitling used the Felsa Bidynator calibre 692, 693 and 711

That looks like an Ernest Borel to me, and they used Incastar.

I don't think it is an Ernest Borel, the rotor would have been engraved ernest borel

Not necessarily, it's quite common on the Felsa automatic movement rotors for them to say just Bidynator or nothing at all. I have seen Breitling Felsa's without Breitling on the rotor and many different Breitling scripts some of which might not be authentic. I would assume Borel would be the same way. The rotor is a very easy piece to swap out when replacing a movement so you can basically call the movement any brand you want by affixing the pertinent rotor but it's still a Felsa. :)

This is, as far as I can tell, an authentic Breitling. Yes, they used Felsa movts, and yes, an option on certain Felsa movts was the Incastar regulator. The Incastar was the only large production regulator with a free oscillating hairspring. You can adjust the rate, but it will throw it out of beat unless you know how to do it, and it's not a simple thing.
