I'm almost certain that all the guys in Top Gun were wearing Navy uniforms... So why does this Tomcat edition say Airforce on it? ![]() http://global.ebay.com/BREITLING_MILITA ... 98035/item Is it fake? Why would you fake a Breitling and not put the logo on the dial? Yes, the Iranian airforce flew F14s but they didn't use the Tomcat logo at the top of the dial ![]() Anyone have any thoughts on what this is all about? |

Looks real to me, but can't comment on the logos. |

The logo on the dial is the official F-14 Tomcat logo designed by Jim Rodriguez of Grumman. Can't comment on the watch. |

The logo is the real Tomcat logo all right. However, there is no such thing as US Navy Air Force. The aircraft arm of the navy is still the US Navy. The sole operators of the F14 were the US Navy (together with the Navy Fighter Weapons School (Topgun), later Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, and NASA) and Iran. |

AFAIK there is no such thing as the US Navy Air force but I wonder if the logo might be alluding to the entity of the "Air Forces" within the US Navy. http://www.cnaf.navy.mil/ Just a thought. |

Your link is about the Naval Air Forces and not the US Navy Air Force. It's all the services within the US Navy that have to do with airborne aircraft, manned or un-manned. And the logo is solely for the F14, nicknamed Tomcat. |

What was Nasa doing with Tomcats? I suppose it's conceivable that the makers of the dial just threw on there whatever they thought was cool sounding and would sell the watch well? Maybe an aftermarket maker? I say this since the Breitling logo is missing, which I wouldn't think Breitling would do... just thoughts... |

There were two Tomcats used by NASA for various tests and research programs at the Administration's Dryden Flight Research Facility, one in 1979, the other in 1984. And there is a thought, now that they are retired, to use them as chase aircraft, to replace the F-5s/F-16s, though more expensive to operate. As two-seaters, they are able to carry a wide range of stores and have a wide performance envelope. |

For the record, here's a photo of the watch in question. ![]() I've discovered that our member breitlingmuseum has owned a couple of these F-14 dialled Colts. http://www.breitlingmuseum.de/ Go to Shop/103. Sorry, can't link directly as the links are converted (I assume by phpBB) to i-am-spamming.de Weird! eg http://www.i-am-spamming.de/1061-breitling-colt-tomcat-navy-force-verkauft-p-1199.html Maybe he can shed more light on the watch? |

Not weird that it converts to spamming, andunless he creates even more user IDs and finds even more IPs he can't shed light - I think I'm up to date with all of his IDs. |

F14D_Tomcat, unfortunately you have fallen into that trap of believing what you read (it's ok, we can't all be smart like helo pilots). The information you provided above, while true, is actually not the correct answer to my question; it is merely the rational that NASA put in writing to justify - for budgetary reasons - the procurement of said aircraft. NASA owned the Tomcats, because next to the YF-12/SR-71, the F-14 was the most badass, adrenaline pumping, boner-producing, hair-raising badass (yes, I said it twice) chick magnet with wings ever created by man!! ...and NASA wanted some of that! Oh... and ummm, Breitlings rock! ![]() |

Like I've already said elsewhere in this forum, flying the F-14 is the best thing you can do...with your clothes and your ![]() ![]() |
