Hello guys,

My dad said I could have this watch is I wanted it. The watch runs well but the crown needs replacing and the chrono's dont work.

My question is, what would a restoration typically cost and what does a watch like this typically sell for.

Secondly, how can I find out the model year for this particular watch?

I have the original leather strap, but its pretty beat up. I would really like to restore it, but since I probably won't wear it often so it depends on the cost. I'm also guessing if I do eventually sell or swap it the restoration will increase its value.

If it were 18k gold then it would have a gold caseback as Yaffle says.

A few things that are odd with the caseback on this - early ones had the serial number inside the caseback, but this isn't that early - looks like an early 60s transition piece, and also doesn't have 806 on the casbeack.

Wouldn't want to offer opinions on value until I see what's going on inside.

You are right Roff, 2.part off 1966 with the red framed 10 on the slide rule

Stainless steel back normally denotes a gold plated case. In terms of values, as a really really basic rule of thumb with vintage Navi's - Solid gold (most expensive) - Steel - then plated gold. I do like the watch, but I would really prefer a stainless steel look(it's gold plated). Never been a real big fan of gold. I have the original leather strap, but its pretty beat up. Depending on the work that's needed you will likely make more by paying for the restoration yourself and then selling. You tend not to make money back on regular servicing, but with a watch with problems buyers are wary of committing because there are no guarantees that it doesn't become an expensive exercise. Visually, this watch looks OK, so you may be able to get away with just a mechanical restoration which will help manage costs.

Serial numbers can be a bit hit and miss in terms of location.
