Post subject:  HARD TO FIND CHRONOMAT DIAL HELP

Hi, I would like to buy a used or re-finished dial for a rare 40's 3 reg. breitling chronomat, ref. 786. I have had no luck with dial companies due to the lack of a proper dial die for this model. I also could use the bezel insert but may have better luck having one made. Practical advice welcome! thanks, Randy.

PM chronodeco (Craig), he does restoration and may have a source for you. Most watchmakers will want to do the work themselves though, they are generally reluctant to sell just the part.

Failing that, try Mark Heist at Horological Services in PA - Breitling authorised for vintage pieces.

I think, it is impossible to find a dial for this chronomat. The watch is so rare, I had never one in my hands. Its one of the rarest Breitlings ever. I am searching more as 5 years to find only one, but I didnt. You must let restore it.

I have only this chronomat 801 and 806 in my collection

No help here. I have only seen pictures of this watch and have no dial parts for it. Craig

the picture was a help-thanks! I had seen one or two chronomats for sale on ebay years ago and nothing at all recently. I also am reluctant to send of the dial plate and case for a dial company to remake the dial. It took a year for me to get back a rare hamilton dial from International dial, although I like them overall.
This project started off as only the case. The steel case is in excellent shape and I have pieced together a venus movement. One of the problems I have is knowing the diameter of the original dial because the bezel insert has a specific diameter as well and they need to fit inside the bezel side by side.
this site has revitalized my interest in restoring this watch, thanks again!

Definitely call Mark Heist at Horological Services - if he can't help you directly then he may well know someone who can.
