I see in ebay a watch "1940’s Chesterfield Calendar TRIPLE DATE " , but with the sign "WOG" on the movement.

I thought "WOG" was the signatur only for Breitling. Can someone enlighten me?

WOG = Breitling & Wakmann to be exact. Common occurence to swap the balances over the years with whatever is working. In this case it got a Breitling piece.

May be.

But it may also be that the watch manufacturers sometimes simply installed that , what was somewhere in stock.

There's a saying in English.........

If you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras.

It means that the simple answer is usually the correct one.

If I see a watch from a manufacturer that has a balance cock from another manufacturer the assumption can safely be made that the watch has had the balance cock replaced.

That may be wrong 1 time in 1,000, but that means that it's right 999 times out of 1,000.

The rest of us find lots of 'wrong' watches and we come to the conclusion that they are simply wrong. You seem to find a lot of 'wrong' watches that lead you to think that they are rare and unique pieces.

I wish I had that luck.

This is a good and correct answer, but dont helps in every case.

What I actually think/mean that the watch companies in the Swiss Jura were so very used to each other and have parts replaced, they are currently needed, so that such things could certainly happen in production.

I will show you one funny example to better understand:

When I bought this strange watch for real cheap money, I never thougt that Breitling ever produced such funny watch. But a lot of years later, I found the catalogue, and now I know, I have a real very big rarity indeed.

I hope, now everbody here understand a little better.

If you never take a risk, you never can have this luck.

Sorry... just felt like a laugh...

To Breitlingmuseum:

Someday... just someday... when my humble collection becomes a BIG collection... just like yours... maybe not as "prestigious" and "super rare" as yours, I'm going to remember you...

and I mean that as a compliment...

Lots of luck to you~
